History of Tigray Supreme court
Welcome to the official website of the Supreme Court of Tigray.
Following the change of the military –DERG regime and the establishment of the transitional
government of Ethiopia the supreme court of Tigray has re-established in 1993 as of according
and proclamation No.
The courts have been reestablished according to the federal system of arrangement according
regular courts in tigray have three levels: the Supreme Court, High courts and first instance
courts (woreda court).
The courts commenced their business with a total of ten judges with LLB(teachers of law ) and diploma ;
and the rest other majority judges with 3 months courts in law.
Currently, besides to the Supreme Court, there are 15 high courts and 110 first instance courts in
the state of Tigray of which 27 of them are in accessible as they are under the occupation of neighboring
and foreign forces.
