The Supreme Court of Tigray Region started in 1985 with less than 10 judges with degrees and diplomas with a three-month training.

Registrar is responsible for managing the court’s registry, which handles the filing and processing of cases, the issuance of notices and orders, the maintenance of records, and the provision of information and assistance to parties and counsel.
The purpose of the cassation bench is, to have uniform interpretation to similar matters of the region and to have effective interpretation of laws, by rectifying the decision of the lower courts to supervise and to control their decisions, and to flourish law developments in the region.
The Civil and Criminal services handle the cases that fall under the civil and criminal jurisdiction of the court, respectively. These include matters such as contracts, torts, property, family, succession, human rights, taxation, administrative law, criminal law, and procedure.
The civil and criminal services also conduct research and analysis on the relevant legal issues and prepare draft judgments for the judges.
